09/03/2010 - Little and large coaches join the fleet
East Yorkshire Coaches, part of the Hull-based EYMS Group, has taken delivery of two new coaches, and has added a modern wheelchair accessible coach to increase the range of coaches that the company can offer for private groups.
‘Little’ is the company’s first 33 seat coach, which chairman Peter Shipp says is ideal for smaller groups including, for example, sports clubs and school groups.
‘Large’ is the largest coach in the fleet – at 13 metres long it has 53 fully adjustable seats in a coach one metre longer than others with the same number of seats, so offering unusually generous legroom. It also features double-glazing, washroom, toilet and drinks dispenser. This is the company’s first tri-axle (six-wheel) coach and is designed to offer extra luxury for larger groups, especially useful on longer journeys in the UK and on the Continent.
Also now in the fleet is a modern coach offering 49 adjustable leather seats and a wheelchair space which is accessed by a driver-operated mechanical lift at the entrance (seats reduce to 47 when a wheelchair passenger is carried).
All three have air-conditioning and three-point seatbelts and are available for private charter. They will also be used when appropriate on some of the company’s holiday tours, which include many UK and continental destinations. Between them the three coaches represent an investment of almost £600,000 and their addition to the 16-strong fleet means that East Yorkshire Coaches now has a range of modern coaches to suit groups of almost any size.
Both the coaches were delivered last month but already East Yorkshire Coaches has reported considerable interest from both existing and prospective customers as they offer something different from the rest of the East Yorkshire coach fleet which seat between 49 and 53 passengers in standard- sized coaches.

Note to Trade Press Editors: The smaller coach is a Mercedes 0816D chassis with a Plaxton Cheetah body. The other is a Volvo 9700 Prestige Plus coach with drop-down TV monitors, DVD and CD players, washroom and drinks facilities. An identical Volvo 9700 has also been delivered to EYMS' Finglands subsidiary in Manchester and this is the second of the type there, the other being the one delivered in 2007 and luxuriously fitted out as the Manchester City team coach.
