Double Deck Coach for EYC

Double deck coach

As part of a significant investment in its leisure division, East Yorkshire Coaches has purchased a double-deck coach capable of carrying 72 passengers in coach-style seats with three-point seatbelts.

East Yorkshire Motor Services has hundreds of double-deck buses in its fleet, but this is the first twin-deck vehicle which is particularly suitable for charter work, especially on trips for school and college students where a large capacity coach will be cheaper and more efficient that having to hire two single-deck coaches, most of which seat around 50 passengers.

The coach, which also has an entrance ramp and a wheelchair space, is not new, but it has been completely overhauled and refurbished, including installing the new seats, and painted in the traditional EYMS coach colours of primrose and riviera blue.

Already the coach is attracting interest from local organisations, including schools.

EYMS chairman Peter Shipp said “We have a long-established coach business sitting alongside our local bus operations and this has been developed with a programme of holiday tours and also private charter work which is showing signs of further growth.  This double-deck coach will be a valuable addition to our 16-strong East Yorkshire Coaches fleet and extends the range and size of coaches that we can make available to prospective hirers.”

The coach is part of a recent investment of almost £3million in new coaches for the EYMS charter and National Express fleets.
