Walk of the month - July

Published on

Our friends at the Yorkshire Wolds Way are putting together some walks in the area which can be accessed by bus.  They're a great way to get out and about in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

This month's walk is the Welton Wander - a great Sunday walk.

This is a lovely short circular walk at the southern end of the Yorkshire Wolds.  It is a great introduction to the Yorkshire Wolds, with plenty of woodland and uplifting views across the Humber Estuary.  When you visit Welton be sure to call in at The Green Dragon Inn.  It has a special claim to fame as it was here that the notorious Highwayman Dick Turpin was arrested. At the time it was for shooting a gamecock and for stealing horses - only later was his true identity revealed!

  • Distance: 4.3 miles (6.9km)
  • Duration: allow 3 hours
  • Difficulty: an easy to moderate circular walk

How to reach Welton

This is a great walk for anyone from Hull wanting to easily reach the Yorkshire Wolds, using the Sunday 153 EYMS bus service.  We recommend that you catch the late service from Hull Interchange.  3 hours should be plenty to enjoy the delights of this walk and give you a bit of time afterwards to relax at The Green Dragon before returning on the 153 bus mid/late afternoon.

See our Service 153 bus timetable.

We also have more buses to Welton during the week, including buses from South Cave, Brough, Gilberdyke etc.

If you have any questions about how to get to this walk, or any walks, give BusLine a ring on 01482 59 29 29.  BusLine is open Mon-Sat, 8am-6pm, so advice is there if you need it.

Thanks to Malcolm of Yorkshire Wolds Way for putting together this walk.
