EYMS short-listed for national awards
Hull-based East Yorkshire Motor Services has been told that the company is short-listed for three national bus industry awards in the Sixth Annual Awards organised by the industry’s main trade magazine RouteOne.
EYMS is in the top five finalists for the Large Bus Operator of the Year Award (over 100 buses), and the Operator Training Award, and the company’s chief engineer, Dave Heptinstall is one of the top five finalists for the Bus Engineer of the Year Award.
Entries for these awards come from all over the UK, including Northern Ireland, so even to be short-listed alongside some of the major UK bus operating groups is something of an achievement.
The deputy editor of RouteOne, Mel Holley, has confirmed that these awards are based not just on simple entry forms, but finalists are chosen after a highly rigorous selection procedure, including personal interviews for individual awards, involving a panel of senior people associated with the UK transport industry.
The award winners will be announced at the RouteOne dinner at the National Motorcycle Museum near the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on Wednesday 7 October, and the dinner takes place during the two-day annual major bus and coach trade show at the NEC.
EYMS group chairman Peter Shipp said “I and my colleagues are absolutely delighted to have reached this stage in so many categories, as we know the strength of the competition that we must be up against. A lot of our staff at EYMS have worked very hard to achieve the standards we have reached in training and engineering quality in particular, and it is very gratifying to know that these efforts have been recognised, even if we do not actually end up as winners.”
