EYMS up for more awards
EYMS Group's main subsidiary East Yorkshire Motor Services Limited has once again been short-listed in the local business awards promoted by the Hull Daily Mail, but this time in not one but two of the categories.
East Yorkshire won the "Training Excellence" award last year and has made the final short-list of three in the same category this year, but is also in the top three to be shortlisted for the "Contribution to the Community" award. This is in recognition of EYMS' involvement with many local activities, charities and organisations, and its various local sponsorships, including the EYMS Brass Band. The Company has sponsored the Band since 1991, just after it was formed, and has supported its successful rise through the ‘divisions' in the brass band world to reach the national Championship Section a few years ago, making it one of the top twenty bands in the country.
The company is also a long-term supporter of the Humberside Police "Lifestyle" programme which organises thousands of youngsters in community projects during the summer holidays, and including a commitment for next year has been the project's principal sponsor three times. Other more minor sponsorships include the "Buy a Bus - Plant a Tree" project in which East Yorkshire donates a tree to be planted somewhere in the city for every new bus bought by the company.
The EYMS annual ‘Big Bus Day' community event in Hull has raised almost £5000 for the NSPCC since the first event in 2006 and this year's activities included Peter Shipp's ‘Big Zip' challenge which raised over £4000 for Marie Curie in June.
The winners in these and the other categories will be announced at a dinner in November.
