Two more awards for EYMS

Published on

Hull based East Yorkshire Motor Services, the main subsidiary of EYMS Group, has notched up more awards – this time at the local Business Awards organised by the Hull Daily Mail, the area’s main daily newspaper.

EYMS won the “Training Excellence” Award for the second year running, but then to everyone’s surprise went on to win the next Award which was announced – the Award for “Contribution to the Community”.

The second Award reflected the Company’s long-standing sponsorship (over 20 years) of the Humberside Police Lifestyle Project, which encourages youngsters to work in teams on community projects throughout the summer holidays, the equally long standing support for the EYMS Brass Band and many other smaller sponsorships, including projects like “Buy-a-Bus, Plant-a-Tree”, which sees East Yorkshire donating a new tree to the HEYwoods Scheme for every new bus bought.  The judges also noted contributions made directly by employees such as the charity Bus-Pulls organised by drivers in Hull, which have raised over £6,000 for local charities, and the EYMS annual Big Bus Day which so far has raised almost £5,000 for NSPCC.

Effective partnership initiatives have included projects to promote safer transport for students at Hull University and the BusWise Scheme with East Riding to make school journeys safer, and the provision of discounted travel for Hull’s Children’s University.

Chairman Peter Shipp said “Naturally we were absolutely delighted to win these two Awards which I like to think reflect our standing in the local community which is very important to us.  I hope that they help our staff feel that they are part of a successful Company and that these Awards are as much to recognise their efforts as they are for the Company itself.  I knew we were short-listed in two categories and I had some hope that we might win one, so to be called up to be presented with a second Award was a really pleasant surprise.

The evening also had another nice surprise in store for EYMS when its training manager, Darren Kendrew, won first prize in the raffle, which was a large hamper, especially as that follows his amazing win of a Hyundai car at a charity dinner attended by EYMS a few weeks ago.”
