EYMS employees clock up 410 years' service
At a special dinner held at Tickton Grange Hotel last Friday, 11 long service staff employed by EYMS Group received awards representing an amazing 385 years' service, to which can be added another 25 years' service by one employee who was unable to attend the function. This brings the twelve employees' total service to 410 years, and that is only for those getting awards which are presented at 25 and 35 years and then at five-yearly intervals.
If the host managers are included, plus some of the wives who have also worked for the company at some time, the 26 people in the room had clocked up between them 481 years' service.
All recipients, which this year included chairman Peter Shipp who reached 50 years in the bus industry last July, received gifts to recognise their long and valued service to the company.
All but two work at the EYMS depot or head office in Hull, with one driver, Mike Dixon, from the company's Withernsea depot and another, Bill Brack, from the company's Finglands subsidiary in Manchester. Both received awards for 25 years.
In a short speech before he and finance Director Peter Harrison presented the awards, Peter Shipp said he was proud to be associated with a company with such a large number of long serving staff. He said "the generally excellent reputation enjoyed by EYMS is entirely due to the people who ‘do the business' so well day in and day out, including not only drivers but engineers, cleaners, office staff and storekeepers whose work is vital and who are all represented here tonight."
